Scoble on iPhone vs. Android

Scoble has a well written piece on Android vs. the iPhone for 2011. I’ve been worried/thinking for a long time that Apple was going to have another “Windows” moment for a while, this time with Google beating Apple for control of the mobile space.

The problem I have with andriod is that even though its an extensive platform, every device you have it on (we develop our app – Greentrac for it and iphoone so we have lots of these devices) has a slightly different look and feel, but worst of all has a different experience which flat out annoys users who switch from one to the other.

Apple has done very well at controlling the experience (in most cases even down to 3rd party apps) which makes the platform a delight to use in all of its form factors. You just can't beat good design.

Apple needs to start thinking about licensing its iOS before they do loose the race. I would bet that allmost all phone vendors would bring out iOS phones in an very short order if they were allowed to license the OS.

100% agree with each of your points. I don't even think they'd have to license the iOS to everyone, just a few high quality producers.
